What is Cosmos (ATOM)?
Cosmos is less a single blockchain than a toolkit and network for connecting many of them. Launched in 2019 and associated with the Interchain Foundation and Tendermint team, it introduced software (the Cosmos SDK) that lets developers spin up their own application-specific chains, plus a protocol (IBC) that lets those chains pass tokens and data between one another.
This "internet of blockchains" vision has produced a wide ecosystem of independent networks that share the same underlying technology.
